Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to add a widget to use the app?
A: No. 🙂 You can just open the app as any other app and look at the data usage. You can add a widget if you want to monitor your data usage with just a glance at your home screen. Also, a widget lets you set up just the right billing cycle you have.
Q: Why does the app need to "manage my calls"?
A: On Android 6-9, the so-called "read phone state" permission is only used to get an identificator from your SIM card needed to query the Android system for the data usage. 🔐
Q: Why doesn't dual/multi SIM work on Android 10 and above?
A: As part of increasing your privacy Google removed the possibilty to read the SIM card identificator needed to query for the data usage per SIM card on Android 10. Unfortunately they "forgot" to add another way of querying the for the data usage per SIM card. 😢 I have reported this as a bug (
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/129292161), but I don't expect to see it fixed until Android 11.
Q: Can you translate the app to my language?
A: I would love to! But I need some help of the community. If you go to
my app at OneSky you can see the progress of translating the app to your language - and also maybe help me out with some of the words. 😍 If you do some translation, please send me an e-mail and I'll give you a promo code for the pro version (you can give it to a friend if you already have it) so that you can really check out how your translation is working in the app.
Q: Why is there a discrepancy between what the app reports and what my phone company reports?
A: There could be a few reasons. The most common is that the widget is set to split the data usage on roaming. Some devices have big differences when running with that split. To ensure it's disabled just click the widget, click "Configure widget" and verify that the checkbox for specifying roaming traffic is unchecked. 🤙
You should also check if your phone company uses 1 KB = 1024 Bytes or 1 KB = 1000 Bytes. For 1 GB of data the difference becomes noticeable. You can change the calculation in Data counter widget's app settings.
Thirdly, you should double check that the billing cycle and starting date is correctly set on the widget.
Q: I have a problem with the app; how can I contact you?
A: Please open the app, click the "More" tab, click "Feedback", click "Report a problem" and describe the problem to me. 🐛
